OCaml Summer Project results

The OCaml Summer Project results came in earlier this week, and my project didn’t made it. Oh well; other opportunities await. However, I do think they’ve selected some excellent projects. The multicore work in particular — deserializing OCaml so that it can take advantage of modern multicore and/or multiprocessor systems will be a significant plus for OCaml development. It will be interesting to see what progress they are able to make. The OCamlWizard project may also produce some interesting results, although I’d be content with working Semantic integration in Tuareg (maybe it can do it already, but I haven’t seen any indication that it can).

Reflections for Sunday^WMonday: rapid penitence

Jennifer & I have been reading a rather good book lately — They Teach Us To Pray by Reginald E. O. White. It’s a biographical survey of prayer in Scripture, looking at the prayers of such men as Abraham, Moses, Jabez, David, Habakkuk, and several more. With each of these men, he inspects what we can see from Scripture of their prayer lives and has some most excellent insights.

Today, we were reading of David’s prayer of repentance in Psalm 51, drinking in the beauty and honesty of his penitence.

Reflection for Sunday: Guarded through Faith

I was just noticing this week how clearly the Apostle Peter articulates some core doctrines of grace. In particular, his description of the nature and workings of the perseverance of the saints caught my attention:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV)

Book: The Weight of Glory

Earlier this spring, my brother recommended that I read C.S. Lewis’s The Weight of Glory. It was well worth the read.
