Reflections for Sunday: The Physicality of Jesus Christ
I’ve been lax in posting lately, and particularly in posting reflections. So here’s a new one.
Our Bible study has recently jumped in to a study of I John. We aren’t using any particular materials, just going through it (using inductive study methods). Outlining it is rather a pain, as it has a stream-of-consciousness structure rather than a more rigid, logical organization. But that’s fine; John is not Paul, and did not write like Paul.
Anyway, John makes a huge deal about the fact that Jesus came as a man, in real flesh. This is evident from the first few verses, when he emphasizes the fact that he saw Jesus with his own eyes, and touched Him with his hands.
Think on this a bit. Jesus, the Son of God, became man entirely.
We can see in Hebrews that the donning of our flesh and sharing in our pains enables Christ to be our merciful high priest — a high priest acquainted with our sufferings, and able to sympathetically represent us before God.

I'm convinced the incarnation of Christ is one of the terms God uses to boggle the mind. How does an infinite, omnipotent, omnicient God become a tiny baby, a little boy, and finally a man? What really baffles me is the fact that He became a baby. How can God limit himself so much? Let's just say I'm totally baffled as to how that is possible. Thanks be to God that He understands Himself.
