It is God Who Gives Life
One thing that has been a constant encouragement to me is that Scripture makes it clear that God is the one in control of pregnancy and infertility.
For many women mentioned, pregnancy seemed impossible, but then God stepped in and created life. Sarah bore Isaac when she was old (Genesis 21:1-7). God opened Rebekah’s womb after Isaac prayed for her (Genesis 25:21). Although Manoah’s wife was barren, she bore a son, Samson (Judges 13). Hannah’s prayer was answered, and she bore Samuel (1 Samuel 1).
God’s intervention is not limited to the old testament. Luke 1, tells of not one, but two unlikely women: one old and barren, the other a virgin, becoming pregnant.
In these cases, it is clear that God acted. It is encouraging that God seems to delight in creating life where it seems impossible.
However, even when it doesn’t seem impossible, it is God who is at work. David says to God, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb" (Psalm 139:13).
Job declared:
You clothed me with skin and flesh,
and knit me together with bones and sinews.
You have granted me life and steadfast love,
and your care has preserved my spirit. (Job 10:11-12)
It is God who gives life, whether or not infertility is an issue. I would not presume that someday He will open my womb, but He could. He has done it before.
