We encourage you to adopt this symbol for your affiliate links as well; it is a simple and convenient way of indicating affiliate links across a wide variety of media (blogs, Twitter, e-mail, pretty much anything that can transmit Unicode text).

We have high standards for the affiliate programs we will join. We will not join an affiliate program for many reasons. Any of the following are sufficient to disqualify an affiliate program:

• Implementing affiliate links infringes on our users’ privacy. We will not install links that involve JavaScript or images allowing the affiliate program to know when a user has read a page containing an affiliate link; the linked-to site should only receive information about our readers when they actually click the link.
• The company’s business practices or offerings are in some way opposed to our values.
• The quality of the product or service is such that we would not want to use it or recommend it.

If you are aware of one of our affiliates violating any of these rules or engaging in other behavior such that we would no longer wish to support them, please let us know.
